In this group the medallion is of primary importance, almost com­pletely filling the field.

COMPARTMENT   CARPETS
These rugs are divided into panels of various shapes and in various colors, each filled with floral forms; sometimes animals and birds appear.

VASE   CARPETS
i In this probably later type some of the flowers are larger and bolder; some spring out of elaborate vases skillfully worked into the design.
